The family made thorough preparations ahead of their meeting with the Prime Minister, using their WhatsApp group to discuss how they would address him.
Mumbai: The Kapoor family recently had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital. They carefully prepared for the meeting, using their WhatsApp group to discuss how they would address him.
Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor shared with PM Modi, “Last week, our family WhatsApp group was buzzing with discussions on how to address you as Prime Minister, Prime Minister sir. Reema Aunty called me daily, wondering if she could say this or that.”
Prime Minister Modi assured the Kapoor family that they could address him however they felt comfortable and encouraged them to consider him a part of their family. Reema Jain, daughter of Raj Kapoor, initially addressed him as “Respected Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi,” but he lightened the atmosphere by playfully interjecting with “Cut.”
Reema expressed her gratitude, saying, “In such a precious time, you’ve invited everyone here on Raj Kapoor’s 100th birthday. We thank you. I remembered a couple of lines from Papa’s movie: ‘I will not live, you will not live, but there will be memories.’ You have shown immense love and respect for today’s India. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honored the Kapoor family greatly. It is a significant honor for me to welcome you. Raj Kapoor’s 100th birthday marks a golden era in India’s film industry.”
During the conversation, PM Modi spoke with the Kapoor family about Raj Kapoor’s remarkable influence. He highlighted how Raj Kapoor was ahead of his time, positioning India as a ‘soft power’ globally through his storytelling long before the term even existed.
He remarked, “In 1947, we had ‘Neel Kamal,’ and now, approaching 2047 and a century-long journey, it symbolizes the immense contributions of our vast nation. Today, the diplomatic world frequently discusses soft power. But back then, when the term didn’t exist, Raj Kapoor had already established India’s prowess in this area globally.”
December 14, 2024, will mark the centenary of Raj Kapoor, widely considered one of India’s most influential cinematic figures. Born in Peshawar (present-day Pakistan), he was the eldest son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor.
Raj Kapoor acted in and produced numerous films, earning him several accolades, including three National Film Awards.
