In the run-up to India’s 78th Independence Day, Uttar Pradesh witnessed a colourful display of patriotism as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ march. The event, held in the state capital, brought together students, social organisations, government employees, and local residents, all walking in unison to promote the message of unity and national pride.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, part of the nationwide Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, encourages citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes during the Independence Day celebrations. This year, the call was to go beyond symbolic gestures and truly internalise the spirit of the tricolour — a reminder of the sacrifices and struggles that paved the way for India’s freedom.
As the march began, the streets came alive with patriotic songs, chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and a sea of tricolour flags fluttering in the morning breeze. Children, dressed in white kurta-pajamas and school uniforms, waved small hand-held flags, while senior citizens joined in, sharing stories of the freedom movement with the younger generation.
Yogi Adityanath addressed the gathering before the march, emphasising that the national flag is not just a piece of cloth but a representation of India’s unity in diversity. “The tricolour is a reflection of our history, our struggles, and our collective aspirations. By hoisting it in every home, we are reaffirming our commitment to building a strong and self-reliant India,” he said.
The march covered key stretches of the city, passing through educational institutions, markets, and residential areas. Local shopkeepers decorated their storefronts with miniature flags and buntings, while school students performed short skits and songs highlighting the importance of freedom and civic responsibility.
In several neighbourhoods, residents had already begun preparations for August 15 by painting walls in tricolour themes, setting up community flag-hoisting points, and organising cultural events. The Chief Minister’s participation in the march served as both inspiration and a call to action, motivating people to take part in the movement wholeheartedly.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, first launched in 2022, has quickly become one of the most recognisable patriotic movements in the country. It aims to bridge the gap between symbolic patriotism and active citizen engagement, urging people to not just display the flag during special occasions but also carry forward its values in daily life.
With the march concluding at a public ground, participants pledged to spread the campaign’s message in their communities. As Uttar Pradesh gears up for Independence Day, the streets are expected to be awash with the tricolour — a visual reminder of a nation that thrives on unity, diversity, and shared dreams.
The march was not just a political or ceremonial gesture; it was a celebration of belonging, a reaffirmation of collective identity, and a powerful reminder that patriotism lives not only in speeches and rallies, but in the everyday actions of citizens.
