CV Ananda Bose, the governor of West Bengal, resigned after making news for his disagreements with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Bose informed the Indian news outlet Press Trust that he has “spent enough time at Governor’s office” when he was in Delhi.
West Bengal’s new governor is RN Ravi, the governor of Tamil Nadu.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, asserted that the Center’s action is “unilateral” and “erodes democratic conventions and the dignity of States” and that she was not consulted prior to the appointment.
Bose’s resignation is part of a rejig, according to sources, and Kavinder Gupta, the lieutenant governor of Ladakh, has also quit. “Governors in several states may be replaced, and the list of new Governors and Lieutenant Governors will be released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan soon,” according to a source.
Following CV Bose’s resignation, RN Ravi of Tamil Nadu was appointed governor of Bengal.
“Yes, I have resigned,” Bose, who was named governor of Bengal on November 17, 2022, told PTI. It is sufficient for me that I have served as Bengal’s governor for three and a half years.
Banerjee stated that she was “shocked and deeply concerned” at first.I do not yet know the reasons for his resignation. On the eve of the upcoming State Assembly elections, Banerjee posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “Given the current situation, I would not be surprised if the Governor has been subjected to some pressure from the Union Home Minister to serve certain political interests.”
“I was just told by the Union Home Minister that Shri R.N. Ravi will be the new governor of West Bengal. In this regard, he never conferred with me as is customary. Such acts attack the fundamental basis of our federal system and betray the spirit of the Indian Constitution. She continued, “The Center must uphold the values of cooperative federalism and abstain from making unilateral choices that undermine democratic norms and state dignity.
Jagdeep Dhankhar abruptly left his position as vice president. CV Ananda Bose abruptly left her position as governor. What took place? due to their defiance of the Union Home Ministry? Trinamool Congress MP and party spokeswoman Shashi Panja stated, “Bengal wants to know what the reason is.”
Governor Vs State
Similar to his predecessor, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Bose had made news for his many run-ins with the state government over issues of elections, law and order, and political violence.
He had visited places affected by riots and violence victims, once even defying the state administration’s recommendations, and made strong remarks regarding the government.
Regarding the Chief Minister, he stated that although they have a good relationship, “politician Mamata Banerjee is not my cup of tea”. He even referred to her as “Lady Macbeth” at one point and threatened to boycott her.

Socially, this means that I will never be on the same stage as the Chief Minister. In a video statement made public by his office, he declared, “I will not attend any meeting where the Chief Minister is present.”Because she violated the Constitution, I shall take proactive measures against her. In the video message, Mr. Bose stated, “My role as the Governor will be limited to the Constitutional obligations.”
Since a contractual female employee accused the Governor of sexual harassment in May of last year, Raj Bhavan’s relationship with the State government has deteriorated.

Bose had even filed a defamation lawsuit against her in court. In an interim injunction, the court prohibited Banerjee from making any disparaging remarks about the governor, stating that a judicial battle between the governor and the chief minister of any state is undesirable.
Bose’s Substitute?
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has also garnered media attention due to his disagreements with MK Stalin’s DMK administration.
Trinamool may protest if the governor returns the Aparajita bill to the Bengal government.
His refusal to sign several measures passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly forced the state to appeal to the Supreme Court, which declared his actions “illegal” and “arbitrary” in a historic ruling last year.
