Russia Nuclear attack on Ukraine

Russia is all set to drop an Nuclear Bomb in Kyiv, Ukraine in this month. 2 days ago, Putin issues new nuclear doctrine in warning to the West over Ukraine. Today, Russia fires nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile at Ukraine. Experts says its a Test as well as a Clear Warning to West and Ukrain that the Nuclear Bomb can be fired anytime soon to Ukraine.

Moscow launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on Ukraine from its southern Astrakhan region, serving as a reminder of Russia’s nuclear capability and sending a strong message to the US and other NATO allies.

In a further indication of the intensifying conflict, now ongoing for over 1,000 days, Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at Ukraine for the first time on Thursday. This marks Moscow’s initial use of such a missile in the war, targeting Ukraine’s Dnipro city in the central-east. This event follows Vladimir Putin’s signing of a revised nuclear doctrine just two days earlier, which officially lowers the threshold for Russia’s use of nuclear weapons and cautions the US and other NATO allies against enabling Ukraine to utilize longer-range weapons provided by Western countries to strike Russian territory.

‘Kremlin refuses to comment’

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on Russia’s first-ever launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile at Ukraine, stating that he had “nothing to say” on the matter, AFP reported.

From where was missile launched?

According to Ukraine’s air force, the intercontinental ballistic missile, along with eight other missiles, was launched from Russia’s Astrakhan region near the Caspian Sea. However, as reported by AP, the Ukrainian Air Force did not specify the exact type of missile but confirmed that six missiles were shot down.

Damages

Reports indicated that two individuals were injured, and an industrial facility along with a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities sustained damage. According to AFP, an official stated, “Two people were wounded—a 57-year-old man received treatment at the scene, and a 42-year-old woman was hospitalized.” It remains unclear if the intercontinental ballistic missile caused any additional damage.

What is ICBM?

— Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) are strategic weapons intended for delivering nuclear warheads.

— These missiles can also be equipped with conventional warheads.

— They play a crucial role in Russia’s nuclear deterrence strategy.

— ICBMs possess a range that spans thousands of kilometers.

— Their range is reportedly between 6,000 to 9,300 miles, rendering distant targets vulnerable.

— Utilizing them would underscore Russia’s nuclear prowess and convey a strong message to the US and other NATO allies.

How does ICBM work?

According to a fact sheet from the Centre for Arms Control, ICBMs go through three phases: the boost phase, the midcourse phase, and the terminal phase.

— The boost phase starts at launch, while the midcourse phase begins once the rocket(s) stop firing.

— During the midcourse phase, the missile ascends to its highest trajectory point and then begins its descent toward Earth.

— In this phase, ICBMs can reach speeds of approximately 24,000 kilometers per hour (15,000 miles per hour).

— The terminal phase occurs when the detached warhead(s) re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and concludes upon impact or detonation.

— This final phase, which can last less than a minute, sees strategic warheads traveling at speeds exceeding 3,200 kilometers per hour (1,988 miles per hour), according to the fact sheet.
