India Will Host Major Athletic Events in 2026; the Schedule

The two biggest athletic events that India will hold in 2026 are the T20 World Cup and the BWF World Championships. Obtain the entire list.

In addition to the Men’s T20 World Cup and the BWF World Championships, the 2026 Indian sports calendar is jam-packed with top-tier competition in tennis, hockey, shooting, and athletics.

The Women’s Premier League, the Mumbai Marathon, the India Open badminton Super 750 in New Delhi, and the Hockey India League in Chennai, Ranchi, and Bhubaneswar kick off January.

February appears to be the most important and busiest month for Indian sports.

The Davis Cup Qualifiers in Bengaluru will be the main event in tennis while India hosts the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at several locations. The WTT Star Contender in Chennai competes in table tennis.

With the Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol in New Delhi and the first Shooting League of India right after, shooting is firmly in the spotlight. Home games of the FIH Pro League bring hockey back into the public eye.

The JSW Indian Open, the largest domestic squash competition, will take place in March, while the men’s Indian Open in golf will take place in New Delhi. In the same month, the Indian Premier League begins play and runs until May.

In April, Ahmedabad will host the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026. India will host the continental weightlifting tournament for the first time since 1982 and for the second time overall.

One of badminton’s most prominent competitions, the BWF World Championships, takes place in New Delhi in August following the summer. India’s first-ever World Athletics Continental Tour silver-level competition will take place in Bhubaneswar that same month. This is an improvement above the bronze-level competition that was hosted there in 2025.

October will include the Women’s Indian Open golf tournament in Gurugram, the National Open Athletics Championships in New Delhi, and the India International Challenge badminton tournament in Raipur.

The Guwahati Masters and Odisha Masters are held in December to close out the year, while the Syed Modi India International Super 300 is held in Lucknow in November.
