An official linked to the United Nations has resigned from his roles, alleging that the global body may be preparing for a scenario involving the possible use of nuclear weapons in Iran. Mohamad Safa announced his resignation in a post on X, accompanied by a letter outlining his reasons.

Safa served as the primary representative of Patriotic Vision Association (PVA) at the United Nations—an international organisation with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme’s Champions of the Earth initiative, Safa has been the executive director of the Patriotic Vision Organisation since 2013. In 2016, PVA appointed him as its permanent representative to the United Nations.

In his X post and accompanying letter, Safa said the decision came after considerable reflection, alleging that some senior United Nations officials were acting in the interests of a powerful lobby.

“I don’t think people fully grasp the seriousness of the situation, as the United Nations appears to be preparing for the possibility of nuclear weapon use in Iran,” the post began, accompanied by an image of Tehran.

Referring to the image, the post added that Tehran is not an empty desert but a densely populated city filled with families, children, pets, and ordinary working people with aspirations—criticising those who support the idea of war without acknowledging its human cost.

Mohamad Safa stated that Tehran is home to nearly 10 million people, urging readers to consider the consequences of a nuclear strike on major global cities such as Washington, Berlin, Paris, or London.

He wrote that he had given up his diplomatic career to bring attention to the issue, adding that he stepped away from his duties to avoid being part of—or witnessing—what he described as a potential crime against humanity, in an effort to prevent a “nuclear winter” before it is too late.

Safa also pointed to recent developments in the United States, noting that millions had protested under the slogan “No Kings.” He stressed that the possibility of nuclear weapon use must be taken seriously due to its grave risks.

Calling for action, he urged people worldwide to spread awareness, take to the streets, and protest in defense of humanity and the future, stating that only public pressure could stop such a scenario.

He further revealed that he had considered resigning as early as 2023 and had waited for three years before taking the step. Referring to multiple global conflicts, Safa alleged that some officials within the United Nations were unwilling to hold countries like Israel and the United States accountable for violations of international law.

Safa also claimed he faced criticism after voicing his concerns and offering an alternative perspective following the Hamas attack on Israel (October 2023), which led to a prolonged conflict lasting over two years.

“After that point, and following what he described as a new world order imposed by the same lobby—originating in Gaza—Safa said that when he voiced his concerns and presented an alternative perspective, he faced widespread criticism and allegations.”

Mohamad Safa further claimed that he felt abandoned by the United Nations and alleged that he and his family had received death threats. He also said he was censored within the UN—not by the institution itself, but by certain senior officials whom he accused of misusing their authority to serve the same lobby.

The United Nations has not issued any official response to these claims.
