Kanpur: According to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) ruling, the Lamborghini Revuelto that was impounded after it collided with a motorbike, an autorickshaw, and a pole earlier this month, injuring six persons, would be released on a bail bond of Rs 8.30 crore.
The lawyer for Shivam Mishra, the son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra, who was temporarily detained in connection with the case, submitted a petition before the court, and a single-judge bench led by Suraj Mishra ordered the car’s release on Friday.
The court ordered the expensive car’s release under certain restrictions after reviewing a mechanical report from the police and technical specialists. The car’s owner will also need to provide an undertaking to the court, the judge said.
The Italian luxury sports car, which is estimated to have cost over Rs 10 crore, was allegedly speeding on Kanpur’s VIP Road on February 8. The car, which was initially an e-rickshaw, collided with a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, throwing the rider ten feet away, according to the police. After mounting the bike’s front wheel, the Lamborghini pulled it a distance before slamming into an electrical pole and stopping.
According to preliminary investigation, the automobile was being driven by Shivam Mishra, the son of the tobacco mogul. Several witnesses confirm that Mishra was driving, and video footage also seemed to show private security guards removing him off the wheel.
His defense team, however, insists he is innocent and claims that Mohan, Mishra’s driver, was the one operating the vehicle.
Four days after the event, Mishra was taken into custody on suspicion of reckless and careless driving, putting life in danger, and using dangerous methods to cause harm.
Mohan showed up at a Kanpur court three days after his arrest to take responsibility for the collision. In his testimony, he claimed that after Mishra had an unexpected seizure, he lost control of the sports car. In addition, he claimed that an issue with the auto-locking mechanism made it impossible for him to get out of the car right away, so he had to push Mishra into the driver’s seat in the small cabin in order to get out.
After providing a Rs 20,000 bail bond, Mishra was freed.
