President-elect Donald Trump teamed up with billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday for the launch of the SpaceX Starship rocket, highlighting their growing connection.
Trump made an appearance at the unmanned SpaceX launch near Brownsville, Texas, sporting his iconic red “Make America Great Again” hat. Before the event, he lauded the SpaceX launch on social media as the “lifting of the largest object ever from the ground, reaching space.”
This marks the sixth launch of Starship, the most massive rocket ever constructed.
A few months prior, Elon Musk had distanced himself from the presidential election, stating he wouldn’t endorse any candidate. However, in July, he abandoned that stance and openly endorsed Trump, becoming one of the campaign’s top donors. Now, Trump has chosen Musk to co-lead the proposed “Department of Government Efficiency,” a new advisory body aimed at streamlining government operations and spending, which Trump plans to establish next year.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also attended Tuesday’s launch. He is set to become the next chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees space-related matters.
“The launch was simply spectacular,” Cruz shared on social media.
