A post that went viral earlier this week on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, claimed that 1.4 million American women use OnlyFans.
This online content-sharing platform allows users to share various types of content, including photos, recipes, and writing. However, it is especially popular among sex workers.

Creators on OnlyFans upload content to their accounts that is accessible only to their fans, who generally pay a fee set by the creator. Creators retain 80 percent of these fees, with the remainder going to the platform.
A post by the World of Statistics X account, @stats_feed, shared this information on December 3, garnering over 3.6 million views. The data appears to originate from a report published a year ago by the Washington Examiner, which noted that out of the 3 million creators on the platform, 67 percent of the revenue is earned by Americans.
The outlet subsequently estimated that if the revenue share were averaged per user, there would be 2 million American creators on the platform. Additionally, the Washington Examiner found that 70 percent of these American users are women, indicating that 1.4 million American women are creators on OnlyFans.
The outlet further reported that 2 percent of American women aged 18 to 45 are content creators on the platform. Given that much of the material shared on OnlyFans is adult-oriented, users must be at least 18 years old and provide government-issued ID to register. While OnlyFans does not disclose such statistics, Newsweek has reached out to the site via email to confirm these figures.
These estimations are rough and do not account for the significant income disparities among OnlyFans users, making it difficult to determine the exact number of American women creating content on the platform.
For instance, 20-year-old Sophie Rain recently disclosed that she earned $43 million on OnlyFans after just a year on the platform. Her fans typically pay $10 monthly to access her content, although she is currently offering first-time subscribers a rate of $5, as reported by Yahoo. During a podcast appearance, she mentioned earning up to $4 million per month.
Another OnlyFans model recently disclosed the substantial multi-million-dollar earnings she accumulated from her content on the site. Corinna Kopf announced in October that she plans to retire from OnlyFans after making $67 million over three years, according to Yahoo. Between June 2021 and February 2022, her monthly income reached $1 million five times, with her lowest earnings still an impressive $600,000.
If we assume that the primary age group of the girls in Onlyfans falls between 18 to 30 years (As 18 years is the minimum age limit and 30 years is the age when most girls avoid getting into these activities).
Then the calculation below shows that around 10% of the American girls are in Onlyfans. It means if we randomly select 10 girls between age group of 18 to 30 years, then high chances are that at least 1 girl must be having her account in Onlyfans. Or in other worlds if we select 10 families randomly where girls with age group of 18 to 30 years live, then high chances are that at least 1 family has their family member active in Onlyfans.

Is it good to have an account in Onlyfans?
Whether it’s “good” to have an OnlyFans account depends entirely on your personal goals and comfort level with sharing explicit content; for some people looking to monetize their image or creative expression through adult content, it can be a viable option, but it’s important to be aware of the potential downsides including privacy concerns and potential stigma associated with the platform.
Potential benefits of an OnlyFans account:
- Financial opportunity: Creators can earn money directly from fans through subscriptions, pay-per-view content, and tips.
- Creative control: You can choose what content to post and manage your own brand.
- Direct fan engagement: Connect with fans on a more personal level.
Potential drawbacks of an OnlyFans account:
- Privacy concerns: Once posted, your content may be shared beyond your control.
- Social stigma: Some people may view OnlyFans as a platform for explicit content, which could impact your reputation in certain circles.
- Legal considerations: Ensure you are complying with local laws regarding the content you post.
Important factors to consider before creating an OnlyFans account:
- Comfort level with sharing explicit content: Be sure you are comfortable with the type of content you plan to post.
- Audience and marketing strategy: Understand who your target audience is and how you will reach them.
- Safety measures: Take steps to protect your privacy and identity.
Why have Americans become increasingly sad? Rising rates of depression and the escalating deaths of despair linked to drugs, alcohol, and suicide have been widely reported. Equally concerning are other related statistics. The percentage of people who claim they lack close friends has quadrupled since 1990. The proportion of Americans aged 25 to 54 who were neither married nor cohabiting with a romantic partner rose to 38 percent in 2019, up from 29 percent in 1990. A record 25 percent of 40-year-old Americans have never been married. More than half of all Americans feel that no one truly knows them well. Additionally, the percentage of high school students experiencing “persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness” surged from 26 percent in 2009 to 44 percent in 2021.
Why have Americans become increasingly mean? A restaurant owner recently shared that he now ejects a customer for rude or cruel behavior about once a week, a situation that was previously unheard of. Similarly, a head nurse at a hospital mentioned that many staff members are leaving the profession due to abusive patients. On the extreme end of this trend, hate crimes reached their highest level in 12 years in 2020. Murder rates and gun sales have been on the rise until recently. Social trust is deteriorating; in 2000, two-thirds of American households donated to charity, but by 2018, fewer than half did. The words defining our era suggest a sense of menace: conspiracy, polarization, mass shootings, trauma, safe spaces.
I believe the most fundamental reason for why Americans have grown sad, alienated, and rude is quite simple: we live in a society where people are no longer taught to treat others with kindness and consideration. Our culture has shifted to one where individuals feel free to indulge in selfishness. The narrative I’m presenting focuses on morals. In a healthy society, a network of institutions—such as families, schools, religious organizations, community groups, and workplaces—shapes individuals into kind and responsible citizens who support each other. Unfortunately, our society struggles with moral development.
Moral formation, as I refer to the term here, involves three key components. First, it involves guiding individuals to restrain their selfish impulses. How can we keep our innate egotism in check? Second, it involves teaching fundamental social and ethical skills. How do you make a new neighbor feel welcome in your community? How do you engage in constructive disagreement? Third, it involves helping people find a sense of purpose in life. Institutions that shape morals promote a set of ideals and offer practical paths toward a meaningful life: Here’s how you can devote your life to serving the poor, protecting the nation, or loving your neighbor.
